Kim Catalano - Catalano Development Group LLC, CDG PLANServices Founder and Project Manager - Calgary, AB Canada and Colorado Springs, CO USA

Kim is the Principal of the Catalano Development Group LLC. Through this organization he offers Lead Planner and overall Project Manager Services. Kim has over 30 years of management experience in planning and development consulting - concept to completion. He has been a Senior Planner and Project Manager, mainly in the West Kootenays and Central Okanagan of BC., with international experience in Colorado Springs, California, and Nevada. Some of Kim’s successful projects have included planning and management of a community of 100 mixed density residential lots in combination with commercial and a church lot; first to plan, develop, and market a small lot, (i.e. 42 ft. wide lots) subdivision in the City of Kelowna; reorganized and obtained regulatory approvals for a stalled development of 300 units, multi-purpose phased strata plan on Okanagan Lake. Larry Slonim - Architect, Associate Architect of the OCAC, CDG PLANServices Project Planner/Architect – Los Angeles, CA USA

Larry has been a Senior Associate and Project Director with Nadel Architects, Inc. for the past 5 years, and specializes in the planning, site design, entitlements and project management of retail shopping centers. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, Ca. in 1977, with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degree, and became a licensed Architect in the State of California in 1982. Larry has over 30 years experience in commercial, leisure and residential architecture. Prior to Nadel, he played a key role in the development of well over 30 Big Box retail projects for a major national firm over a 10 year period, comprising well over 4,000,000 square feet of Retail Space in five western states, from Colorado to Hawaii. His role was to organize and oversee the due diligence investigation, evaluate and recommend those findings with the client, take an active part in real estate deal negotiations between the client and the land owners, assist the client and his attorneys in the review of the proposed sale and lease agreements, and collaborate with a team of other professionals in shepherding these projects through an often challenging, public entitlement process. He was also instrumental in the 3 year expansion and redevelopment of regional health club’s facilities in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, encompassing 3 of their locations and approximately 300,000 square feet. Since joining Nadel, he has been the lead Project Architect for San Jose Market Center, a 32.4 acre Shopping Center near the heart of downtown San Jose, California, the entitlement of an 83.3 acre redevelopment (de-malling) of the existing, locally historic Winrock (regional) Mall in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is currently engaged in the design development and entitlement for a 150 acre landfill site being redeveloped into a mixed-use Center in the City of Carson, California, which, when completed, is anticipated to total over 1.5 million square feet of building area. www.TheOCAC.com

Doug joined Way Architects, P.C. in 1994 and quickly became an important member of the team. John Berry P.Eng. - Civil Engineering Lead, MMM Group Limited – Calgary, AB Canada
Mr. John Berry, P.Eng. has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and over 28 years of experience in the municipal engineering field. He has been the manager of municipal engineering at MMM’s Calgary office for 13 years. Mr. Berry has extensive experience in managing various types of municipal engineering projects from design to build-out. Recent country residential projects include Hawk’s Landing at Priddis Greens (108 lots) and The Lake at Heritage Pointe (501 lots). Mark Moncur, PEng - Geological Engineer, Moncur Groundwater – Didsbury, AB Canada

Mark Moncur is the founder of Moncur Groundwater and has over 35 years experience in groundwater engineering and hydrogeology. With a B Eng from the University of Windsor and an M Sc from the University of Waterloo. Mark’s primary focus has been the location, construction, development, and evaluation of water wells for water supply or dewatering purposes. Over the years he has evaluated over 5,000 water wells using a variety of tools including: satellite technology for geologic mapping, surface and down hole geophysics and groundwater modeling. Mark has instrumented water wells to aid in the maintenance of supply and when required has undertaken water well rehabilitation by both mechanical and chemical methods. He is also experienced in all stages of environmental assessments (e.g. wellhead protection or complete full scale plume control and recovery) as well as wellhead completion, pump selection, and installation. Mark has undertaken projects for mining, oil and gas, pulp mills, forestry, government and private sectors. His work scope ranges from feasibility analyses through to serving as an expert witness. Doug Porozni - Vice President of Development, Ronmor Developers Inc – Calgary, AB Canada

Doug has been with Ronmor for ten years. With developments in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Sylvan Lake, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer and Lethbridge, Doug has been involved in many grocery/pharmacy-anchored retail centres, office, industrial, and mixed-use projects. Note able projects include the redevelopment of North Hill Centre, and the first fully mixed-use project in the Marda Loop area of Calgary with retail, office, and residential in one combined building. Doug graduated with a Masters in Economics from the University of Alberta and entered the real estate market with NuWest Developments (Edmonton) in the late 1970’s. After moving to Calgary in 1984, Doug worked with Oxford Development on their Calgary portfolio before joining Qualico Developments to kick start their commercial divisions in Edmonton and Calgary. Richard Sordi - DBA Designed Space, CDG PLANServices Special Projects Advisor – Calgary, AB Canada

  • Graduated with a Diploma in Regional and Community Planning in 1974
  • A Master’s Degree in Environmental Design in Architecture, 1981
  • Active in the architecture, planning and design of a multitude of housing projects, inner city re-development and renovations of commercial/institutional projects for over 35 years.
  • Specifically worked, as a planner for the Kootenay Boundary Regional District, on its initial LAND USE document and at the City of Calgary with the Planning Department on the multiple family residential and industrial sections of the new land use bylaw.
  • Acted as the chairman of the Beautification Committee in the City of Trail and instituted a downtown tree planting program as well as tree planting program for east Trail, BC.
  • Instrumental in winning an Innovative and Design proposal for a new community in Calgary and has won a few city architecture awards for housing designs.

 

George Kuhl - Senior Land Use/Community Planning Advisor, CDG PLANServices Special Project Documentation and Peer Review – Lethbridge, AB Canada

George brings over 32 years of experience in the planning profession in Southern Alberta. He is the owner operator of Plains West Planning (PWP), a company specializing in urban and rural land use planning and design in both the public and private sectors. George holds: a Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Studies from the University of Lethbridge; a Certificate in Site Planning (CSP) from the University of British Columbia; and a Masters Certificate in Project Management (MCPM) from York University & the University of Lethbridge. He is a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and is a registered Alberta Community Planner (ACP) in the Alberta Association of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Within the past ten years, George has developed Area Structure Plans and Community plans within the Counties of Lethbridge, Foothills, Cardston, and Vulcan; M.D.’s of Pincher Creek, Taber, and Willow Creek and; the Town of Coaldal.

 

Robert D. McKay, CDG PLANServices Senior Planning Advisor and Peer Review – Lethbridge, AB Canada

Robert D. McKay brings a strong background in municipal planning, conflict resolution, and land development. He graduated from a professional school for community planners at the University of Waterloo, School of Urban & Regional Planning in 1976, and is a full member in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Alberta Assoc. of the Institute. Mr. McKay’s professional work experience primarily includes Southern Alberta and the National Capital region in Ontario. He is formerly a Senior Planner with the Oldman River Regional Planning Commission, including providing planning services for the Towns of Nanton, Fort Macleod, Claresholm, Vulcan, County of Vulcan, and the M.D. of Willow Creek, as well as numerous villages. He is a former Planning Director for rural Goulbourn Township, now in the City of Ottawa where he helped create Official Plans and Main Street programs for the Villages of Stittsville and Richmond, Ontario. He also was a Senior Planner with the former Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, City of Nepean and new City of Ottawa…all of which were part of Ontario’s municipal amalgamation. In 2002, Mr. McKay joined the staff of the City of Calgary, where he served as the Subdivision Approval Authority, approving in-fill subdivision in older Calgary neighborhoods, and extensive new subdivisions, such as Genstar’s Panorama Hills and the City of Calgary’s Aurora Business Park. He left the City of Calgary in August 2007 and is currently serving the City of Lethbridge as Senior Community Planner, taking the lead in developing a new Integrated Community Sustainability/ Municipal Development Plan.

 

Meggin McCloskey M.A., CDG PLANServices Outreach Coordinator SE USA - Marketing, Demographics/Statistical Economics and Interior Design Advisor – North Central Florida, USA

Meggin has over 15 years in demographic and economic statistical analysis. Her research has been documented on national and local news forums and in statistical and sociological journals for a range of studies. Beginning her career in the Aluminum extrusions business, Meggin was involved in the sale and design of several commercial floating dock and seawall projects for the surrounding tourism industry of Central Florida. Working closely with large scale vacation retreats and theme parks this paved the way to her current career in multi-family development. Now working with an Interior Design firm, Meggin helps with construction management, budget and scheduling for the turn-key operation of installing the furniture and fixtures for several national multi-family housing developers. A native to Central Florida, Meggin has an array of contacts in real estate, development, time-share and construction and also has a clear grasp of the local economy and changing economic demographics. Linda Johnson, Realtor, CDG PLANServices Outreach Coordinator Fraser Valley, BC and Project Administration/Interior Design Advisor – Fraser Valley, BC Canada

Linda is a multi-talented Realtor in the Fraser Valley of B.C., Canada. Along with her Sales and Marketing knowledge, she comes with eight years of Interior Design and Construction Coordinating experience. Her comprehensive involvement in design, decorating and organizing construction is evident in countless homes throughout the Auguston Development, a Master Planned community in Abbotsford, B.C. Additionally, Linda has an extensive background in Business, Office Management and Administration encompassing a wide range of skills with an assortment of companies. Her business experience merely began with the conception and formation of a Helicopter Charter company and its development thru many successful years with her partner. Betty Arcand, Realtor, CDG PLANServices Outreach Coordinator Fraser Valley, BC and Project Administration/Controls – Fraser Valley, BC Canada

With 25+ years of accounting, management and software systems expertise -- from accounting and office management to software application design -- Betty offers a unique perspective. She is adept at analyzing, evaluating, documenting, and recommending system improvements that enhance organizations and strategies. These capabilities can be applied to a wide range of business and development models.

From 1985 thru to 1997 Betty worked primarily as Finance Manager for various companies where she was responsible for all levels of accounting. In 1997 Betty attained certification in Computer Programming and LAN Administration and subsequently accepted an assignment installing and configuring two Novell networks, along with providing training and support on various software applications for a group of companies in Abbotsford BC. She also worked as an instructor supporting students in basic accounting, LAN Administration and Business Applications.

From 2000 – 2002 Betty was engaged by CIMS Inventory Management as Systems Consultant with responsibilities that included:

  • Project Manager for implementation of inventory management software/hardware systems.
  • Review, analyze, evaluate and document inventory management systems and user needs.
  • Design flow charts for process control, software design, hardware installations, and work flow.
  • Perform application testing to ensure accuracy to design specifications and functionality.

  • Analyze, design and implement systems changes.
  • Developed manuals for software and hardware specifications, installation procedures and End User Application.

Then in 2004 Betty joined Legacy Pacific Land Corporation as Special Projects Coordinator until 2006. Her duties consisted of supporting the installation and configuration of the new inventory/warehouse management systems in their cold storage and warehousing operations, along with determining, recommending and formulating system improvements throughout the organization to parallel overall business standards and strategies. She documented all Human Resources processes and practices creating a comprehensive Company Manual; designed flow-charts and documented the various corporate structures within the group of companies; she developed a variety of company marketing materials; designed and maintained the company contact database along the internal company web site. Betty was also a key project team member in the design of their HACCP program and in the research and development of a Joint Venture in a Freeze-Dried Food processing plant.

Hanna Janowitz has over 20 years of real estate experience. She is a Multi-Million dollar producer and has earned the Top 10% status in the Miami area. She also owned and operated a successful Sir Speedy Printing franchise for 16 years. Hanna lived in the Miami area for over 40 years before relocating to Central Florida. Robert A. Martin, President, Land Development Consultants, Inc., CDG PLANServices Special Advisor – Colorado Springs, CO USA

Mr. Martin, founder of LDC, has over 40 years of experience in land use related design, construction, development, and project management. His expertise includes hands on planning and design as well as coordination and management of design teams. As president of LDC, he has led the firm by personally working with staff members and overseeing all projects.

Before starting LDC, Mr. Martin worked for the City of Colorado Springs as Assistant City Engineer, head of the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department, and as a Public Works Administrator. Throughout his municipal career, he was a key staff member integral in the growth of Colorado Springs area.

Mr. Martin received his formal education in England at Watford Technical College and began working in the engineering field in 1960. Mr. Martin is a respected member of the community donating valuable hours as a volunteer with numerous local and state committees, boards and programs. Working with Neighborhood Groups on numerous Developments throughout the Pikes Peak Region he has been a fair representative to assure that Development can work in harmony with any given Neighborhood group and can be considered as an expert in this field.

Public involvement is critical to the success of any Public Project and when pushing new roadways adjacent to a well-established Neighborhood. Recent experiences include a number of new Home Depot stores including the one nearby this area at Woodmen and Academy and for previous City financed SCIP improvements at Circle Drive and Galley Rd. working closely with existing commercial establishments. It is expected that several Neighborhood meetings will be held and efforts will be made to keep these meetings in the area and to preset schedules and agendas.

Doug Truit, Banking/Finance, CDG PLANServices Project Management – Colorado Springs, CO USA

Doug Truitt has been in the Commercial Banking and Finance business in Colorado Springs since 1978 working with Western National Bank in their Construction Loan Department.. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in Economics in 1977 and he also graduated from the Colorado Graduate School of Banking in 1986. A large portion of Doug’s experience has been in commercial and residential real estate lending. In late 1980 Doug was appointed a Vice President in the Commercial Loan Department where he assumed the additional duties of managing a large Commercial Loan portfolio.

During his banking career Doug has been responsible for New Business Development, Planning and Budgeting, Organizational Management, Sales Management, Product Development and Customer Relations. Doug brings his extensive financial experience to the PLANServices team. of a downtown office building in the heart of Colorado Springs.

 

Heather Dougall, President - Colesten Marketing Ltd., Aberta, Canada

Currently, Ms Dougall is the managing partner for Colesten Marketing Ltd. with over 10 years marketing
experience in all facets of real estate development; from concept to completion. These projects range from single family suburban communities to multi-family resort properties throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Ms.Dougall has worked extensively with developers, builders and trade partners to effectively create strategies for successful sales and marketing of the end product. This includes management of presentations to developers and other shareholders, community design themes, sales centre design and construction and project launches. She has diverse experiences in brand development and management, media launches and successful marketing and communications strategies that have lead to increased sales.

 

Nicholas 飫�agisi, President - Sperry Van Ness Commercial Realty, NY, USA

Currently, Mr. Malagisi serves as the National Director of Self Storage and Senior Advisor for Sperry Van Ness International. Since 1993, he has participated in multiple real estate transactions totaling in excess of $350mm in value. Prior to affiliating with SVNI, Mr. Malagisi managed his own firm which specialized in the marketing, sales, and disposition of self storage properties throughout the northeastern United States. In addition, he has prepared feasibility studies for new developments, testifying in court as an expert witness and prepared Broker Opinion of Valuations of properties for various institutional clients. He is a member of the Self Storage Association (formally on the Board of Directors), the New York Self Storage Association and the New York Commercial Associations of Realtors. Mr. Malagisi is a guest speaker at many of the national self storage conferences where he speaks about Valuations.

 

Brent White – Construction Estimator / Project Manager / NCSO, Calgary, Ab.

Brent brings more than 10 yrs of experience managing various construction projects in the Calgary area. After attending the University of Saskatchewan, he worked as a ministerial assistant holding the Economic Development portfolio. Following this experience, Brent realized the economic climate of Alberta offered the most promising future, and relocated to Calgary. Working for a local general contractor and construction manager who consistently ranks in the Top 20 Contractors in Canada, Brent has played an integral part of several projects of various scales. These range from office, retail, industrial, infrastructure, and mixed use styles of construction. The completion of several Design Build projects have been of the most interest, as he was able to actively participate in all aspects of the project right from inception to their completion. Acting as a liaison between owners, developers, tenants, government agencies, inspection services, consultants, and trade contractors Brent has gained an invaluable perspective from all parties involved in achieving project success while maintaining the budget, safety, and schedule.
